Super Speeder
Florida’s new Super Speeder law carries huge fines and jail time. We fight to reduce the charge and save your license.
What Is the Super Speeder Law?
Florida’s super speeder law—found in § 318.14(13) and cross‑referenced with § 316.1926—targets drivers who exceed the speed limit by 50 mph or more or who drive over 100 mph.
The law aims to deter extreme speeding and imposes strict penalties beyond a standard speeding ticket. According to § 318.14(13), a first violation requires a $1,000 fine.
A second violation results in a $2,500 fine and a one‑year license revocation, and a third violation is a third‑degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine and a 10‑year license revocation.
New updates enacted in 2025 increased penalties, including mandatory court appearances and potential jail time for drivers who exceed 100 mph or the speed limit by 50 mph.
Key Points
First offense: $1,000 fine; mandatory court appearance; possible jail time up to 30 days under recent updates.
Second offense within five years: $2,500 fine, up to 90 days in jail and automatic one‑year license suspension.
Third or subsequent offense: Third‑degree felony; $5,000 fine, potential 10‑year license revocation and possible prison time.
Mandatory court appearance: The super speeder law requires personal appearance before a judge; drivers cannot simply pay the ticket online.
Insurance consequences: Convictions often result in dramatic insurance premium increases and potential cancellation of coverage.
Why Legal Representation Matters
Super speeder charges combine the risks of criminal speeding and reckless driving. A conviction can lead to jail time, felony classification and long‑term license loss. Defenses may include challenging the calibration of speed measurement devices, questioning the legality of the traffic stop or negotiating the offense down to a standard speeding ticket. Because the law requires a court appearance, having an attorney present is essential.
Ticket Shield’s Defense
Ticket Shield understands the technical issues involved in super speeder cases, including radar and lidar accuracy, pacing methods and officer training. We review the evidence for procedural errors, challenge the prosecution’s proof of speed and seek alternative resolutions such as reckless driving plea agreements or driver improvement programs. Our goal is to avoid a criminal conviction, reduce fines and keep clients on the road.
